Daiquiri cocktails are a perfect Summertime drink. The key ingredients are rum, citrus juice and sugar or syrup.
Daiquiri Cocktail History
This iconic cocktail is thought to have been invented in Cuba at the beginning of the 20th century by an American mining engineer named Jennings Cox. He was working in the small Cuban town of Daiquiri, and reportedly asked for his team to receive monthly rations of rum.
Daiquiris became very popular in Cuba. The bartender of historic Havana bar El Floridita, Constantino Ribalaigua Vert created a frozen daiquiri, that he served to Ernest Hemingway.
The writer had a habit of ordering doubles, so his version of the daiquiri is known as the Papa Doble. It was made with white rum, limes, maraschino liqueur and grapefruit.
For this recipe, we also used white rum – an organic single estate rum from Belize by Copalli. Distilled from organic sugar cane and pure canopy water from the rainforest, it scooped White Rum of the Year at the NY International Spirits Competition.
To measure cocktail ingredients, you can use a jigger which comes with most cocktail shakers. A jigger is a cocktail measuring cup that is usually made from stainless steel.
Cocktail Making Tools
A cocktail shaker is another handy bar tool. If you don’t have one, a to-go coffee cup works too. Just screw the lid on tightly and place a finger over the sipper spout.
For this passion fruit daiquiri, pour white rum into a cocktail shaker, add passion fruit and cinnamon syrup, lime juice and sugar syrup. See the detailed instructions and ingredient quantities in our recipe below.
If you’d like your cocktail extra cold, add crushed ice. There are a few ways to make crushed ice at home.
Either place ice cubes in a blender or fill a resealable freezer bag with water before placing in the freezer for 3 hours. Then run hot water over the bag and bash it with a rolling pin.
Shake the ingredients in a cocktail shaker, then strain into a coupe glass or hi-ball tumbler. We like to garnish with a slice of lime and a cocktail umbrella for that vacation at home feel!

Passion Fruit Rum Daiquiri Recipe
5 Ingredient Passionfruit Rum Daiquiri
A delicious fruit daiquiri that's so quick and easy to make. Perfect for hot Summer days.
Ingredients
- 50 ml white rum
- 16 ml passionfruit juice (2 parts)
- 9 ml cinnamon syrup (1 part)
- 1 lime
- 15 ml sugar syrup
Instructions
- Pour 50 ml of white rum into a cocktail shaker. We use Copalli White, a Belizean single estate organic rum.
- Add 2 parts passionfruit and 1 part cinnamon syrup to the shaker.
- Chop the lime in two and squeeze 15 ml of lime juice or half a lime in to the shaker. Keep the other half for decoration.
- Add 15 ml of sugar syrup to the shaker. You can also add crushed ice if using.
- Shake the ingredients thoroughly, then strain into a Martini glass or hi-ball tumbler.
- Garnish with a slice of lime and decorate with a cocktail umbrella if you like.
